The Electra Cruiser is pretty similar to the Townie, with three key differences. The Cruiser has a more classic beach cruiser frame with swooping handlebars. And while the Coast is a beauty anywhere you want to ride it, its biggest benefit is that it features more rust-resistant components for a happy bike life in salty sea towns. Steel easily rusts in coastal environments, which is particularly problematic for steel frames and steel bike chains.
Nor is the Shimano Altus 7-speed drivetrain, but that’s not what this bike is for. Designed with a classic moto style, Ride1Up’s Cafe Cruiser has a casual ride feel. The zippy 750W motor powers the Cruiser to 28 mph (20 mph using the throttle) with a suspension fork and 3-inch-wide tires to smooth things out when it gets bumpy. Ride the Cafe Cruiser to the bar, along the boardwalk, or to Sunday morning brunch, and add a passenger kit for $125 with a padded seat for the rack, footpegs, and wheel guards.

During the late 1950s and early 1960s, bicycles imported from Great Britain and Continental Europe became popular, especially lighter and more nimble sports roadster models or “English racer”. These models featured three-speed gearing, taller wheels, narrower tires and lighter weight[11] and greater hill-climbing ability. By the late 1950s, U.S. manufacturers such as Schwinn ramped up production of the English racer.[12] Schwinn was no stranger to this style. These prewar bikes could be had with imported half inch pitch drivetrains with freewheels and hand brakes. In postwar production, Schwinn began producing lightweights again in the mid 40s with models such as the New World.
