Bike Tire Pressure Quick Guide to the right PSI for Bike Tires

The geometry is fairly modern for a department store bike, with a 66.5° head tube angle and a 75° seat tube angle. Get up to 50% off mountain bikes, cruisers, and more while supplies last. Experience the thrill of peak performance with our selection of high-performance bikes and components.

The Mongoose brand of bicycles focuses on two product lines for consumers. The most popular line comprises discount bikes offered in department stores, while higher-end Mongoose bicycles can be found on the Mongoose website or in specialty bicycle shops. Tires are usually an inexpensive upgrade that can make a huge difference in the way a bike feels, but here again, buyers likely won’t want to bother. The included wheels feature narrow, 18mm rims that are even narrower than what you might find on a gravel bike today.

If you’re deciding between the two, the Switchback Expert is going to be the better choice for riding a bit more aggressively, thanks to the more powerful brakes and one-by gearing. At its full retail price of $949, the Switchback Expert is overpriced. At the current $549 price, I’d say it’s priced about right. With the included flat pedals, the Mongoose Switchback Expert weighs 33.9lb (size XL) which isn’t too far off what a more expensive full suspension mountain bike might weigh. The Mongoose Legion L60 Bike is a good entry level BMX bike for someone on the slightly taller side.

With a 21-speed derailleur, you’ll have a wide gear range to tackle ground conditions as they arise. Front and rear disc brakes deliver the swift, clean stop you need, and textured mountain tires easily grip tough trails to propel you forward. All the while, the padded seat keeps you comfortable as you navigate the wilderness. A far-superior Mongoose line can be found on the official Mongoose website. These bicycles, which comprise specific models for BMX, mountain and urban biking, are offered with better-made frames and higher-level components. They are also much more expensive than the department-store Mongoose bicycles.

A few posts up there is a link to the new Mongoose bikes that are supposed to be as good as anyone else’s and are not walgoose editions. I did some digging on another site and found that by 1983 Mongoose frames were being built in Taiwan. Brunswick sold Mongoose to Pacific Cycle in 2000 and Pacific Cycle was bought by Montreal-based Dorel Industries in 2004.

Obviously, the cost to ship to these states/countries isn’t cheap, but these bikes are affordably priced even with the cost to ship to these locations. Whether shop here at Albe’s BMX or at , we’re just stoked to help get these beauties to hardcore ‘Goose fans anywhere in the world. It was originally sold by the BMX Products company at the beginning of BMX.

The frame and rims are made from a durable lightweight aluminum while utilizing a steel… He did a good video recently on some more budget parts (including hydraulic disc brakes) as well as he has been playing with a Walmart MTB recently. I had one for awhile that I didn’t ride very much, turns out I hate riding in the snow anyway.

Because nothing in life is ever as simple as it should be, we’ve included a few more things to ponder when it comes to making sure everyone’s tires are in good shape for their next ride. Every tire has a recommended psi printed on its side close to where it touches the rim. This is usually written as a range (for instance, “90 to 115 psi”) since there are reasons why you’d want to be on the higher or lower end, which we’ll get into shortly.

Compared to bikes from other major brands like Specialized and Trek, the Mongoose Switchback Expert offers a pretty similar value. The Switchback Expert currently costs $125 less than the Specialized Rockhopper and is the better choice, in my opinion, based on the geometry and parts specs. If you’re willing to spend a bit more, the $739 Trek Marlin 5 Gen 3 is worth a mongoose fat bike look for its upgraded drivetrain, wider tires, and similar weight, though still no dropper post.
